THE PRISM TRIO

The Prism was formed in 2022 through a collaboration between bassist Eddy Khaimovich and pianist Nicki Adams, both of whom have made significant contributions to the New York jazz scene over the past decade. After a serendipitous meeting during a pandemic-era home recording session, the two bonded over their musical connection. Eddy has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Blue Note, and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, working with luminaries like Gloria Estefan, Roy Hargrove, Paquito D'Rivera, and Itzhak Perlman. Nicki, a Steeplechase recording artist with six albums to his name, has worked and/or collaborated with notable musicians like Francesco Mela, Victor Jones, Francois Moutin, Stacey Dillard and Jonathon Pinson. Both artists have dedicated their careers to jazz but also draw inspiration from classical music, frequently performing in both genres throughout New York City. The trio is completed by drummer Evan Hyde, a prominent figure in the NYC jazz scene known for his collaborations with artists such as George Coleman, Freddy Cole, and Kenny Barron. Evan’s versatility and rhythmic precision have enhanced the trio’s cohesion, allowing them to explore intricate conceptual ideas while maintaining a deeply expressive sound.

The trio honed their skills performing throughout NYC at various venues and festivals. In 2024, they toured the Southwest with Nicki’s brother Patrick Adams on trumpet. Drawing from Cuban, African, American, and European traditions, Prism Trio emphasizes collaboration and musical dialogue. Their performances balance intricate rhythms with intimate expression, and they believe the boundaries between jazz and other musical forms are arbitrary, in line with Duke Ellington’s view that the only true distinction in music is between "good music and the other kind." The Prism Trio creates a dynamic, vibrant sound, refracting diverse influences into a unique and joyful experience.
